Ensure jobs for persons with disabilities: Speakers

All have been urged to create a congenial atmosphere so that persons with disabilities can easily get employment opportunities.
Speakers made the appeal while addressing a discussion meeting jointly organised by the BCC and Centre for Services and Information on Disability (CSID) in association with Leonard Cheshire Disability and Accenture titled 'The Decent Employment of Persons with Disabilities,' in the city on Thursday, said a press release.    
The daylong job fair was organised with a view to ensuring access to employment for persons with disabilities.
Officials of 20 private companies attended the fair and recruited 32 persons with disabilities after taking their interviews, which is the first ever public-private joint initiative in the country.
Among others, Secretary of Social Welfare Ministry Nasima Begum, Secretary of Information and ICT Division Shyamsundar Sikder, Country Director of Sightsavers Dr Golam Kibria, Executive Director of BCC SM Ashraful Islam and Executive Director of CSID Khandaker Jahurul Alam addressed the discussion.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, through skype conversation from his constituency Natore, addressed the function.   
A large number of persons with disabilities and public and private officials attended the fair.
The function was told that the persons with disabilities comprise of 10 per cent of the country's total population.
