Ensure no varsity turns to business: President

President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday underscored the need for united efforts so that higher educational institutions cannot turn into profit-making business entities. “We’ve to keep in mind that higher educational institutions must not become profit-making business entities in any way. So, we’ve to ensure together that those are not becoming centres of making profits,” he said. The President was addressing the first convocation of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology (SMUCT) held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city. A total of 1,378 students were awarded degrees at the convocation. Six students received chancellor’s gold medals for their outstanding results. Former Chief Justice of India Justice Altamas Kabir delivered the convocation speech at the convocation ceremony, according to UNB.
