Ensure trial of war criminals, demands WPB

RAJSHAHI, July 21 (BSS): Speakers at a human chain programme here today unequivocally called for immediate trial of the war-criminals under the International War Crimes Tribunal Act and restoration of 1972 Constitution.
Local unit of the Workers' Party of Bangladesh (WPB) organised the hour-long human chain and street meeting at Shaheb Bazar Crossing to press home its demands.
Chaired by WPB Central Committee Member and Rajshahi City unit Secretary Liakat Ali Liku, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Mustafizur Rahman Khan Alam of NAP, Dr Syed Shafiqur Rahman of Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, Sadrul Islam of WPB, Abdullah Al Masud Shibly of JSD, Freedom Fighter Shafiqur Rahman Raja, Abul Kalam Azad of CPB and Advocate Ferdous Jamil and Moniruzzaman of WPB.
Congratulating Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for initiating trial of war- criminals, the speakers urged the government to remain vigilant against all conspiracies.
They also urged the government to show Motiur Rahman Nizami, Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed and Delwar Hossain Sayedy arrested under the International War Crimes Tribunal Act.
Besides, they also alleged that the conspirators were in guise within the government, bureaucracy and political parties.
They stated that the trial of the alleged war criminals could help making the nation free from the long-standing social stigma along with proper implementation of the spirit of the liberation war.
Expressing their deep gratitude to the government for its sincere effort to bring the war-criminals under justice after a long lapse of 40 years, the speakers called for extending full-length support to the government for successful completion of the trial process.
Another report adds: Joint General Secretary of Awami League (AL) Mahbubul Alam Hanif said the government is firm to hold the trial of the war criminals during its present tenure.
Mr Hanif said this while addressing a rally as the chief guest organised by Jatiya Sramik League (JSL) at Muktangaon in the city Wednesday, reports BSS.
"We will uproot fundamentalists and their associates through holding the trial of war criminals," he said adding that holding trial of the war criminals was not only the election pledge of the government but it was also a commitment of the AL to the nation.
The AL leader said the present government was pledge-bound to complete the trial of Bangabandhu killing and the trial of the war criminals, and as part of its commitment five killers have already been executed and other killers will also be punished soon.
He denounced Khaleda's recent statement about missing of Chowdury Alam and said the government is investigation into the incident and it would find out the culprits at any cost.
During the regime of four-party alliance 'Jamaluddin of Chittagong was abducted and his skeleton was found after two years of his abduction, he added.
Addressing the rally, State Minister for Law Advocate Quamrul Islam said the trial of war criminals would be completed by this year and he urged all freedom fighters to be untied.
He said the trial of war criminals had started during the regime of Bangabandhu but president Ziaur Rahman stopped it.
Among others, AL Labour and Manpower Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj and General Secretary of the JSL Roy Ramesh Chandra addressed the rally, while JSL President Abdul Matin Master presided over it.
