Ensuring equal wages for female workers stressed

RAJSHAHI, Oct 20 (BSS): Participants at a discussion here underscored the need for ensuring equal wages for the agriculture female labourers together with formulating a separate wage policy for them for making them more interested in working in the fields.
In this regard, they mentioned that the women workers, in the agricultural activities, are always paid less than that of the male workers creating digressing situation among them.
Besides, they stated that they were also subjected to repression and oppression by both the landowners and male colleagues.
Barendra Unnayan Prochesta (BUP), a human rights-based organisation, arranged the discussion at its office at Mungli under Charghat Upazila marking the International Day for Rural Women.
With Vaya Luxmipur Union Parishad Member Dolena Begum in the chair the discussion was addressed, among others, by farm labours Sharifa Begum, Munira Begum, Fahima Khatun and BUP Fieldworkers Jamiul Islam, Mustaque Ahmed and Fahima Khatun.
The speakers stressed the need for forging a social movement to realise fundamental rights of the women day-labourers and the child- daughters.
They also underlined the need for a collective effort to eliminate all sorts of discriminations and disparity towards the working women to attain the cherished goal of building a poverty and hunger-free Bangladesh.
Earlier, they also staged a rally cum human chain programme at the area chanting the demands.
