Environ-friendly investment for sustainable dev stressed

Environment friendly investment is vital for sustainable development of the country.

Professor Muzaffer Ahmed made the observation while speaking as chief guest at a seminar organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) on Managing Environmental Sustainability in Business in the city recently, said a press release.

He also stressed the need for better coordination between different ministries to protect the environment.

Editor of the daily Prothom Alo Matiur Rahman was present at the seminar as special guest.

Addressing the seminar, Mr Matiur urged the government to implement the existing policies including installing effluent treatment plants (ETPs) in industrial areas to protect the city's surrounding rivers from further pollution.

Speaking on the occasion, President of the ICAB Nasir U Ahmed said that it cannot be denied that industrialisation had created a lot of adverse impacts on global as well as on our country's environment and climate change.

He mentioned that some voluntary organisations and the print and electronic media were also playing very important role in making government and mass people aware of environmental issues.

Audit and Risk Advisory Service of KPMG of Australia Sabbir Ahmed presented the keynote paper at the seminar.

Chairman of the Industrial and Infrastructure Development Finance Company Limited Md Matiul Islam conducted the seminar as session chairman.
