Thursday, 2 April 2015

Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has trained its 38 officials to monitor and ensure environmental compliance in its eight export processing zones (EPZs). BEPZA arranged the three-month training in collaboration with Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), the authority said in a statement. The officials recently received certificates of the training on "Environmental Management in EPZs of Bangladesh" at a ceremony at the MIST. Mohd Habibur Rahman Khan, executive chairman at BEPZA, was the chief guest at the certificate awarding ceremony, which was addressed, among others, by M Md Siddiqur Rahman Sarker, commandant of MIST, FM Zahid Hossain, dean of Faculty of Civil Engineering, and Shah Md. Muniruzzaman, head of Civil Engineering Department of MIST. Mr Rahman expressed the hope that the training would definitely facilitate institutionalisation of environmental compliances in eight EPZs of the country.  He said that the trained officers would properly utilise their knowledge, gathered from the training, in environment development of EPZs. Citing the primary objective of an EPZ as providing special areas with congenial investment climate, free from all sort of cumbersome procedures, for potential investors, he said that the BEPZA is working on building a stronger and economically prosperous Bangladesh.
