Sunday, 30 December 2007

Bangladesh Ambassador in USA M Humayun Kabir called upon the expatriates in Florida to actively consider Bangladesh as an investment venue in the context of its improved investment climate, reports UNB.
M Humayun Kabir made the call during a reception hosted in his honour by the expatriate community at Port Lauderdale in Florida Thursday night.
Chaired by President of Bangladesh American Foundation Dinaj Khan, the meeting was attended by the community members including leaders of Bangladesh Association in Florida.
Speaking on the occasion, M Humayun Kabir urged the community to work together with the Embassy to improve the image of Bangladesh in the USA.
The Ambassador mentioned that Bangladesh has achieved significant progress in many socio-economic areas and is currently pursuing reform programmes to make democracy sustainable and governance accountable.
"The expatriate community can suitably project these efforts to the outside world along with Bangladesh Mission abroad," he added.
During the interaction with the community members, Ambassador Kabir outlined the reform initiatives undertaken by the present government to strengthen the institutional and policy framework as well as to energize the economic process and urged the expatriate community members to support these efforts.
He also underscored the need to connect young generation in the United States to the history, culture and achievement in Bangladesh so that they could emerge as a new vehicle for connecting Bangladesh with the global knowledge and capital network.
He also thanked the community members for their generous support and donation for the Sidr victims of the country.
The expatriates expressed satisfaction at the improvement in service delivery of the Embassy.
Bangladesh Embassy held temporary consular camp in Florida on December 26 and 27. Dr M Shafiullah, an expatriate educationist in Florida, also handed over a cheque for $2500 to Ambassador for the Sidr victims.
