Envoys of nine Muslim countries meet Khaleda

Tuesday, 11 November 2008

Ambassadors of nine Muslim countries Monday met BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia ostensibly to know her mind on participation in the upcoming election, reports UNB.
"We want all parties take part in the polls," Palestinian Ambassador Shaher Mohammad told waiting reporters after an hour-long meeting with Khaleda at her Gulshan office in the evening.
Asked if they found Khaleda agreeable to take part in the election the ambassador said, "We discussed about her participation. But it is entirely their matter."
"What we want is free, fair and neutral election with participation of all parties," he added.
The ambassador parried a question if they thought election could be free and fair under the emergency.
Khaleda's Adviser Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury said the former Prime Minister discussed with the envoys about the problems facing the Muslim Ummah and how to resolve those unitedly. The matters to strengthening Bangladesh's relation with the Muslim countries also came up in the discussion.
Replying to a question, Chowdhury said there was no doubt about BNP's intention of going to polls. "We have raised certain genuine demands to make the polls free and fair, which were under discussion with the government."
