State-owned Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the apparel sector's apex body, BGMEA, joined hands to develop skills of garment workers and mid-level managers.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Export-ers Association (BGMEA) and the EPB on Thursday signed an agreement in this regard.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan and EPB Director General Mahbubur Rahman inked the deal on behalf of their respective sides while EPB Vice-Chairman A H M Ahasan was present at the event at EBP office in the city.
As per the agreement, the training programme will be carried out for three years to develop skills of the workers and employees of readymade garment (RMG) industry for better productivity and efficiency, according to a statement.
Thanking the EPB, BGMEA said the demand for skilled workers is growing in the RMG sector, particularly at the mid-level of management, and the issue should be addressed with due attention and action.
One of the best options to enhance productivity is to make the workers skilled by imparting them necessary training, he added.
Congratulating the industry for its progress, EPB Vice-Chairman Mr Ahasan said the RMG industry alone contributed US $42.61 billion to the country's total export earnings of US $52.08 billion.
He assured EPB's all-out support to the RMG sector in terms of promotion and market exploration.
