Equal rights of all in the spirit of Islam urged

Influential members of the society should come forward and work spontaneously to enhance the life of the underprivileged members of the society and seek the establishment of equal rights for all mankind in the spirit of Islam and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Speakers said this at the essay competition organised by the Institute of Hazrat Mohammad (SAW) to recognise the unique endeavours of the visually impaired at the Lakeshore Hotel in the city Friday on the occasion of holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi.
The essays were written on the topic of 'Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as role model for global peace' and 'Universal message of Prophet Muhammad (SAW)' to provide its participants a distinctive opportunity to research and study the life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his teachings on equality, equity, justice and peace.
The essay competition was held in two groups of junior school level, and senior college and university level. Eight winners, of the competition, three from each group read their essays in Braille format.
Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor SMA Faiz was present as the chief guest while Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Salehuddin Ahmed attended the function as the special guest.
Brunei High Commissioner in Bangladesh Dato Haji Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Hamid and Convener of Nirapad Sarak Andolon Ilyas Kanchon along with media personalities and representatives from Indonesia and Pakistan were also present on the occasion.
The DU vice-chancellor as the chief guest felicitated the Institute for organising the essay competition, especially proving a platform for the visually impaired for self expression.
He pledged that Dhaka University would work with the Institute for expanding the programme for the visually impaired.
The BB governor underscored Islam's progressive message for mankind to live in peace and harmony.
Quoting from Prophet Muhammad (SAW)'s last sermon, the governor spoke at length on how the teachings of Islam covers all spheres of human affairs and are designed for the achievement of social, economic and financial justice and peaceful coexistence of different races and religions and elimination of any kind of discrimination.
He urged the participants to carry the spirit of the holy Quran in heart and lead life with confidence.
He was pleased to learn that the Institute regularly offers Quran classes, English Language classes and computer training for the visually impaired and also provides legal counsel for the redress of grievances and organises special lecture sessions on relevant issues such as the rights of the visually impaired.
The programmes are conducted free-of-charge and are aimed to enhance the quality of life of the visually impaired through education and empowerment.
A large number of visually impaired persons, eminent scholars and dignitaries attended the programme.
