Ershad calls for shunning hartal culture

Wednesday, 30 June 2010

Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad has defined 'hartal' as a destructive political culture which is not practised in any civilised country in the world.
He called hartal an 'organisational democratic right' but sought to know how democratic right could be upheld by burning people and their property in a ruthless manner.
Ershad also called upon the opposition parties to shun the hartal culture in the greater interest of the country and its people.
"We have been waiting for coming out of such a horror which is named hartal," he said while taking part in the general discussion on budget Tuesday in the House, reports BSS.
He praised the finance minister for placing a realistic budget for the next fiscal year.
He termed the budget as a document of further development and said there is no scope for failure in implementing the budget. "There is no alternative to implementing the budget for economic emancipation of the country," he added.
Assuring of all-out cooperation from his party in implementing the new budget, he said there is a big challenge ahead hovering around the nation and 'Jatiya Party wants to be a part of facing this challenge.'
Ershad said the Mohajote government was voted to power due to its commitment to economic development and urged the government to keep continuing the commitment to turn the country into a middle-income country by 2021.
