Ershad for anti-hartal law

Friday, 26 November 2010

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has urged for the formulation of an act for banning general strikes, reports bdnews24.com.
He said, "All that happens in the name of general strike is panic among the mass people."
Mr Ershad was addressing a conference Thursday at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Auditorium in the city's Kakrail area.
The party's youth wing Jatiya Juba Shangha arranged the conference.
The former president said, "I handed over the state power peacefully for the sake of democracy and to give an institutional shape to it. But, my hopes have not been fulfilled; democracy has not assumed an institutional shape so far."
Mr Ershad spelt out that his party was with the grand-alliance and would be with the alliance. He, however, said that his party must be evaluated properly.
Asked by the party's Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader if leaders and activists of the party should wage any anti-strike movement or programmes alike, Ershad said, "Wait and see. I will direct in due time. Stay ready."
He laid emphasis on forming committees at all the stages of the party to see it in a ruling position.
Following the conference, Mr Ershad declared the Jatiya Juba Shangha central committee, placing Liakat Hossain as president, Alamgir Shikder as senior vice-president and Aminul Islam Jhantu as general secretary.
