Ershad for women-friendly working environment

RANGPUR, Dec 24 (BSS): Former President and Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad today stressed for creating women-friendly working environment to expand opportunities for the grassroots level women entrepreneurs in the country.
"The womenfolk, who constitute half of the country's 160 million population, are trying to contribute to the society and nation as a whole and creation of small and medium enterprises and industries for them has become a call of the time now," he said.
The former president was addressing a daylong view-exchange meeting -2011 titled 'Problems of the Grassroots Women Entrepreneurs in Rangpur Division and Way-out' here as the chief guest.
Federation of Women Entrepreneurs and Industry (FWEI) organised the meeting in Town Hall auditorium here with its President Moushumi Islam in the chair.
Noted industrialist Fazlul Haque, JP Presidium Member Moshiur Rahman Ranga, Administrator of Rangpur Zila Parishad Advocate Rezina Razzaque, Rangpur pourasabha Mayor AKM Abdur Rouf Manik, Deputy Commissioner BM Enamul Haque, addressed.
President of Grassroots Women Entrepreneurs Society Chandona Ghosh, District Women Affairs Officer Shameema Akhter Banu, Ladies' Club President Kaberi Enam, social worker Rawshan Ara Begum and Organising Secretary of FWEI Selina Rahman Baby also spoke.
The FWEI leaders said women of Bangladesh have already earned great reputation, honour, dignity and fame from the international women community through their ability and talents by producing quality products.
"Satranji', a produce of Rangpur women, has become a world class product, is being exported abroad and there are brighter prospects of many other products being produced in Rangpur region by the women and female entrepreneurs, they said.
The FWEI leaders forwarded their eight-point demand for resolving the problems being faced by the female entrepreneurs and called upon the chief guest for taking necessary steps at the higher level towards the directions.
