Ershad no longer doubtful about polls

Jatiya Party (JP) chairman HM Ershad on Saturday said there is no doubt or hesitation in his party about the upcoming 11th parliamentary election.
"Jatiya Party is in very strong position right now. And we are well-prepared for the next polls," he said while inaugurating the party's digital election campaign for the 11th parliamentary polls at his Banani office.
The JP chief said scepticism about the national election has been cleared as the plans of the people who tried to foil the election have failed.
"JP will contest all 300 seats if Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) skips the election. If the BNP takes part in the polls, we have other plans," he added.
Ershad, also special envoy to the Prime Minister, hinted that his party will participate in the election as part of Awami League-led grand alliance if the BNP joins the polls.
Earlier at a JP rally on October 20, Mr Ershad expressed scepticism whether the next parliamentary election will be held or not.
He said, "A political alliance (Jatiya Oikya Front) has placed seven-point demand while the government doesn't want to accept those."
The JP chairman also said there might be fresh polarisation in politics for the sake of the country ahead of the general election.
He, however, said, "The seven-points are not acceptable as per the country's constitution ... and under the present circumstances, the future of the election doesn't seem clear."
