Ershad pursuing distorted politics, says Fakhrul

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Tuesday slammed Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad saying that he is a glaring example of distorted politics.
In a statement, he also said the history Ershad narrated in a newspaper article was distorted and fabricated one.
The statement was issued protesting Jatiya Party secretary general Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu’s remarks published in different newspapers Monday, according to a news agency.
In a statement, Bablu Sunday hit back at Fakhrul and demanded the BNP leader seek apology to the nation for making what he said derogatory remarks against JP chief HM Ershad.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday demanded that the JP chief apologize to the nation for his remark that Ziaur Rahman grabbed power through a bloody military coup.
Protesting Fakhrul’s Saturday’s speech, Bablu Sunday said Zia had killed thousands of army men in the name of combating military coups.
In his statement Monday, Fakhrul said it is natural that Bablu cannot speak going beyond the political culture initiated by Ershad.
Accusing Ershad of initiating a buying-and-selling political culture, he said Babulu pursues that politics.
The BNP spokesman also termed Ershad a symbol of promise breaker, lies and hypocrisy in the name of Islam.
“Many freedom fighters, including Ziaur Rahman, had to lose their lives due to Ershad’s evil design. So, Ershad had committed unpardonable crimes. He should be tried and punished in public,” Fakhrul added.
