Ershad ridicules AL, BNP for making fun with formalin

Jatiya Party (JP) chairman HM Ershad has criticised the country’s two major political parties – Awami League and BNP – for making fun with a serious harmful chemical formalin. ‘Formalin is not a matter of joke. It hurts me when top leaders of our country make fun with formalin,’ he told a meeting at the party’s office at Banani in the city. The former president further said, ‘Whenever we open the pages of the newspapers, we see news of murders. But our politicians don’t feel shame while joking about formalin! I get shocked to see that.’ Ershad, also the special envoy to the Prime Minister, said he could contain the use of formalin in food items within seven days had he been there in power. The former military ruler also voiced disappointment over the current situation of the country, according to UNB.
