Ershad threatens anti-govt movement

Saturday, 2 August 2014

Former president and Jatiya Party (JP) chairman HM Ershad has threatened to stage street demonstration over the government’s ‘failures’. ‘We will take to the streets if necessary. We will continue to place the failure of the government before the people,’ the former military ruler said while addressing the JP’s Shariatpur district unit leaders and workers at JP’s Banani office in the city on Saturday. Ershad said: ‘The government failed to ensure security of people’s lives and property. So, they (government) have no rights to stay in state power.’ The image of Bangladesh has been tarnished due to murders and forced disappearances, he observed, according to a news agency.
