Establishing village libraries

Tuesday, 14 October 2025

A wise man once said: read, read, and read. No nation can truly progress without cultivating a culture of reading. The more a society reads, the more advanced it becomes. Unfortunately, in our country, reading has been largely neglected. While other nations move forward, we risk falling behind.
I believe the key to national progress lies in promoting reading. Access to good books is essential, but many people cannot afford to buy them. This makes the establishment of libraries in every village a vital necessity. Libraries not only provide knowledge but also inspire creativity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
Furthermore, naming these libraries after famous personalities from the village can honour their legacy and motivate younger generations. When people see the names of respected villagers attached to centres of learning, it fosters a sense of pride and encourages them to engage with books.
I urge the authorities, local leaders, and philanthropists to prioritise this initiative. Establishing well-stocked, accessible libraries in every village, named after notable residents, would be a small step with a far-reaching impact - nurturing knowledge, preserving local heritage, and ultimately, contributing to the nation's progress.
