FE Report
A delegation led by State Minister for Water Resources, Ethiopia Adugna Jebesa and senior officials of the Ethiopian government is visiting Bangladesh on a study tour and experience sharing programme on 'Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Implementation Programme'. Infrastructure Development Company Ltd (IDCOL) organised the programme.
The programme was inaugurated at IDCOL's head office with Secretary of Power Division M Fouzul Kabir Khan in the chair.
IDCOL's renewable energy programme, particularly the solar home systems (SHS), has become known globally. Many African and Asian developing countries are looking to replicating IDCOL's SHS programme.
IDCOL through its partner organisations has already financed 1,75,000 SHS in the remote rural areas of the country. It has a target of financing 500,000 SHS by 2010. The government of Bangladesh, the World Bank, KfW and GTZ are financing IDCOL's renewable energy programmes.
