EU Commissioner wants Hasina to engage in climate diplomacy

European Union (EU) Commissioner for Climate Change Connie Hedegaard has said they expect that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would use her high-profile climate diplomacy initiatives to play an effective role in the Climate Change Summit convened by the UN Secretary General in September in New York. The EU Commissioner expressed her expectation to maintain EU’s close cooperation with climate vulnerable countries such as Bangladesh on issues of shared interest under the purview of the negotiations. She said this at a meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at her office in Brussels on Wednesday, according to a foreign ministry media release, said a news agency.
