EU envoys urge Dhaka to remove investment obstacles

Diplomats of the European countries in Dhaka on Thursday urged the government to remove the institutional obstacles to greater and quicker European Union (EU) investments in Bangladesh. They mentioned power, infrastructure, IT and services sectors where investment process needs to be smother and quicker. The diplomat’s call came at a briefing arranged by the Foreign Ministry at the State Guesthouse Padma. The EU now is looking towards creating a more coherent and overarching framework for cooperation with the present government which will include formation of a joint commission and a comprehensive dialogue partnership, higher two-way trade, stronger development cooperation and higher EU direct investment in Bangladesh. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Prime Minister’s Political Affairs Adviser HT Imam, International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam MP briefed the diplomats, according to a news agency.
