EU interested to invest in country's potential sectors

European Union (EU) is interested to invest in the country's potential industrial sectors such as apparel industry that is renowned worldwide.
Dr Stefan Frowein, outgoing European Union ambassador in Dhaka, said this while he called on Industries Minister Dilip Barua at the latter's office Thursday.
He said EU was beside the country to strengthen its democracy through assistance in introduction of voter ID card, infrastructure development and increasing industrial capacity.
Terming the country's environment as friendly for investment, Dilip Barua urged the EU to invest in the country.
He said shipbuilding sector is one of the lucrative sectors where they can invest and earn huge profit.
"We are giving importance to the prosperity of private sector that is key to the economic development of the country," Barua added.
He, however, said political stability is a must for sustainable development.
Earlier, the newly elected committee of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) led by its president ATM Waziullah urged the minister to introduce one stop service for industrial entrepreneurs.
They made the call during a courtesy call on the industries minister at his office.
They also requested the minister to reduce rates of interest on loans to them.
