The European Union (EU) will provide technical support and training facilities to Bangladesh to help build up skilled human resources, says its envoy. William Hanna, ambassador and head of the EU Delegation in Dhaka, gave the offers during a meeting with Industries Minister Dilip Barua in the city Tuesday. The industries minister, while briefing the reporters, said the 27-nation regional grouping will also continue its support to strengthen and modernise the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). The minister said the ambassador lauded the online registration service of the Board of Investment (BoI) to eliminate corruption and harassment, saying it would encourage foreign entrepreneurs to invest in the country. "Bangladesh is a suitable place for investment due to political stability," the minister said, urging the EU nations to invest in the country's potential sectors, including shipbuilding. They also discussed various issues, including the EU's assistance for the local industrial sectors, foreign investment, and training to develop skilled manpower.
