CHITTAGONG, Dec 2: The European Union (EU), under its trade assistance programme, will undertake a special project to expand its trade volume with Bangladesh.
This was disclosed at Chittagong Chamber auditorium recently at a seminar on Bangladesh Trade Support Programme (BTSP), now under implementation by the Ministry Of Commerce in collaboration with the EU.
While speaking on the occasion, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Saifuzzaman Chowdhury termed the private sector as the main driving force for the economic uplift of the country.
In line with the changed global trading perspective, the government is chalking out different projects under public private partnership concept conceiving the importance of the private sector, he observed.
CCCI president underscored the need for coordinated efforts of the different ministries for proper implementation of these projects.
He said, as the commercial wings of Bangladesh embassies abroad were not able to play the desired role in expanding volume of international trade of the country, special training was needed for the concerned officials before their posting in the missions abroad.
CCCI Vice President Mahbub Alam, Joint Secretary of Commerce Ministry Md Shoukat Ali Warsei, CCCI directors Syed Jamal Ahmad, Fahim Ahmad and Chittagong University Professor Salim Uddin also spoke at the seminar, among others.
