EU to provide addl grants to Bangladesh

The European Union (EU) will provide extra allocations to Bangladesh for its on-going development programmes, in addition to the proposed climate change assistance, the outgoing EU ambassador said in Dhaka on Sunday, reports UNB.
Dr Stefan Frowein, ambassador and head of EU delegation to Bangladesh, said this, when he made a courtesy call-on President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban.
During the meeting, the EU ambassador appreciated the role of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in matters relating to global climate change issues. He said she has been able to make all people know about the adverse impacts of climate change.
Frowein expressed the hope that the EU would continue its support to Bangladesh in future as well.
President M Zillur Rahman appreciated the EU ambassador's role and his contribution to preparing the country's voter list with photographs and national identity (ID) cards before the last general elections.
He expressed the hope the EU would continue its support to Bangladesh's development efforts.
Through the outgoing ambassador, the President conveyed his thanks to the EU President for the latter's assurances about releasing funds to address the climate change issues.
Secretary to the President's Office, M Safiul Alam, Military Secretary Maj Gen Abul Kalam M Humayun Kabir and Press Secretary AKM Nesar Uddin Bhuiyan were present on the occasion.
