EU troika arrives today

A European Union (EU) troika arrives in the city today (Wednesday) on a four-day visit to Bangladesh to assess the country's pre-election political situation.
The delegation will be headed by Ambassador Andreas Michaelis, director general for Asian and Pacific Affairs of German Foreign Office, said a German Embassy press release in the city Tuesday, reports UNB.
The other delegation members are Head of Division for South Asia of German Foreign Office Thomas Wriessnig, Head of Unit of Commission Relex of European Commission (EC) Helen Compbell, Michael Swann of the European Council Secretariat and Deputy Ambassador of Portuguese Embassy in New Delhi Manuel Santiago.
The troika will exchange views on domestic political situation, the state of human rights, sustainable democracy and the ways to hold free and fair elections.
The delegation is scheduled to meet the Chief Adviser to the caretaker government, the law adviser, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman and leaders of the Awami League and BNP, civil society members, the Chief of Army Staff, the foreign secretary-in-charge, the home secretary and ambassadors accredited in Bangladesh.
