Euke Ching Marma dies

Valiant freedom fighter Euke Ching Marma passed away in Friday, family sources said. The 80-year-old had been suffering from old-age complications for a long time, his daughter Renu Marma said. He was the only Bir Bikram awardee indigenous freedom fighter. Renu Marma said her father had passed away in the morning at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. The gallant freedom fighter is survived by his wife, daughter and two sons. He joined East Pakistan Rifles (EPR) in 1952. In March 1971, he was posted at Rangpur's Hatibandha border outpost as a Nayek. He took part in the Liberation War with nine of his colleagues. He would be cremated on Sunday at his family crematorium, his daughter said, according to bdnews24.com.
