European stock markets climb at open
Tuesday, 22 July 2014
Europe's main stock markets advanced in opening deals on Tuesday, rebounding slightly from recent losses, with London's benchmark FTSE 100 index up 0.31 per cent at 6,749.09 points. In Frankfurt, the DAX 30 added 0.73 per cent to 9,682.21 points and the CAC 40 in Paris gained 0.44 per cent to 4,323.71 compared with Monday's close. European equities had fallen for a third day on Monday, weighed down by concerns the US and Europe could toughen their sanctions against Russia, and by escalating violence in Gaza. Markets have been worried in recent days by escalating tensions between the West and Russia after the downing of a Malaysian airliner last week, and by Israel's ground offensive in Gaza, according to AFP.
