European stocks gain

LONDON, Aug 22 (Internet): European stocks gained on speculation the US Federal Reserve will cut interest rates to ease a credit crunch and support economic growth.
Societe Generale SA and Man Group Plc paced an advance by financial stocks. Neste Oil Oyj and Eni SpA rallied after Credit Suisse Group lifted its recommendation on shares of the oil companies.
Air Liquide SA increased after Eurazeo SA boosted its stake in the company. BHP Billiton Ltd. rose after the world's biggest mining company said full-year profit climbed to a record.
