Eurozone retail trade picks up by 0.4pc in June

BRUSSELS, Aug. 4 (Xinhua): The eurozone retail trade picked up by 0.4 per cent in June, compared to the previous month, the European Union's statistics bureau Eurostat said yesterday.
Year on year, the volume of retail trade grew by 0.9 per cent in the 13-nation bloc sharing the same currency euro.
The index dipped by 0.7 per cent month on month and increased by 0.1 per cent year on year in May, according to revised figures from the Eurostat.
In June, retail trade of "food, drinks and tobacco" remained unchanged on the monthly basis in the eurozone, while the non- food sector rose by 0.8 per cent.
Compared to June 2006, retail trade of "food, drinks and tobacco" fell by 0.4 per cent, and the non-food sector increased by 2.1 per cent.
The retail trade index in Germany, the largest economy in the eurozone, gained 0.7 per cent compared to the previous month and dropped by 2.5 per cent compared with the same period of last year.
