Evaly's Shamima seeks to sit on board

FE REPORT | Friday, 12 August 2022

The former chairman of the controversial e-commerce platform Evaly Limited, Shamima Nasrin, has approached the court-appointed board of directors to include two relatives and her on the board.
The two other proposed names are her mother Farida Talukder Lily and sister's husband Md Mamunur Rashid, says lawyer Ahsanul Karim.
Another application has been filed with the High Court (HC) seeking directives not to harass ex-managing director Mohammad Russel and ex-chairman Shamima with unnecessary cases, he adds.
Following a petition filed by a customer, the HC bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar on 22 September 2021 directed the bodies concerned to be restrained from selling, transferring or disposing of Evaly's assets until the case is disposed.
The same bench on October 18 formed a five-member oversight body for the management of the company.
Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was appointed as the chairman of the company and Mahbub Kabir Milon, additional secretary of the government, as the ex-officio managing director. Ms Shamima already transferred her 50-per cent share of the company in favour of Ms Lily and Ms Rashid.
She transferred half of her 0.6-million shares upon release from jail on 06 April 2022.
Ms Shamima cited this in an application to the HC for adding her as a party of a case that was filed seeking HC directives for winding up Evaly and distributing net asset cash fund to creditors.
After hearing the petition, the HC bench on April 19 allowed her as a party of the case.
On 17 February 2022, the same bench allowed Ms and Mr Russel to transfer 50 per cent of their shares to three family members for running the company.
Meanwhile, Mr Milon has filed an application with the HC seeking its directive to protect the dignity of the members of the court-appointed board while discharging their duties properly.
The court may hear the petition and pass an order, says Evaly's lawyer barrister Morshed Ahmed Khan.
