India tasted the first victory in their 2nd Group B match of the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers as they came from behind to beat hosts Bangladesh by 2-1 goals in a hard-fought match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium Sunday.
This was the first defeat for Bangladesh in their 3rd group match after beating Jordan 1-0 and crushing UAE 6-0, according to a news agency.
The wonder girl of Bangladesh, Sanjida Akhter, who scored twice against UAE and netted the match-winner against formidable Jordan, again put Bangladesh ahead Sunday in the 20th minute from a penalty (1-0).
Referee awarded the spot kick when local forward Krishna Rani was brought down by Indian defender Amrita Kumari near the goalmouth.
Indian forward Roja Devi leveled the margin in the 29th minute, also from a penalty (1-1).
Bangladesh defence comprising Sharmila Bairagi, Masura Parvin and Khadija Akhter Sima tried to resist Indian forward Sushmita Bardhan in the danger zone, but the Australian referee Katherine Margaret treated this as illegal and awarded the spot kick.
Bangladesh were reduced to ten players in the 64th minute when their defender Masura Parvin got the marching order after receiving red card for a rough charge against Indian midfielder Premi Chiru and India got a free kick from the top of the box.
Indian midfielder Kashmina curved the free kick from the edge of the box and Bangladesh goalie Ayesha fisted the ball, but it landed in front of unmarked Roja who found the net from close in the 74th minute (2-1).
