Eviction drive begins to remove illegal structures in Khulna

KHULNA, Feb 06 (BSS): Khulna district administration started eviction drive from January 05 to remove illegal structures on the banks of the Mayuri River.
The administration also started eviction drive today in the city to remove illegal structures. Fifty illegal structures were evicted from the bank of Rupsha canal.
Led by executive magistrate of the district administration Md Zakir Hossain, the drive conducted in collaboration with the help of different stakeholders including Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna Development Authority (KDA), Water Development Board (WDB), Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED), Settlement Office and Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP).
While talking to the news agency, executive magistrate Zakir Hossain, said "We have started drive to remove illegal structures built occupying banks of the both sides of the Mayuri River and 22 canals area aiming to return normal water flow, beautification, free from land grabbers and water logging in the city.
"The drive will be completed in three steps accordingly," he said.
The steps includes elaborate publicity through miking adjacent to Mayuri and 22 canals' areas, making a list of encroachers and eviction drive following the list, he added.
Meanwhile, 11-member technical committee and 25-member eviction committee was formed yesterday.
Additional deputy commissioner (Revenue) Sarwar Ahmed Salehin and Estate Officer of KCC Nuruzzaman Talukder have been made head and member secretary of the technical committee while deputy commissioner Md Helal Hossain and secretary of KCC Md Azmol Haque were made head and member secretary of the eviction committee.
Mayor of KCC, local parliament member, divisional commissioner, KMP commissioner, Khulna Range DIG and Chairman of KDA are the advisors of the latter committee.
Earlier, high officials in different government office led by KCC Mayor Khaleque visited the banks of Mayur River and 22 canals in the city.
