The authorities of East West University (EWU) Sunday allocated Tk 0.15 million to the families of six fire-victims who lost their lives in a fire incident at the university on February 21 last year.
President of the board of directors of EWU Jalaluddin Ahmed, founder Vice-chancellor (VC) Mohammad Farashuddin and the incumbent VC Mohammad Sharif handed over a cheque for Tk 25,000 to the parents of the each victim at a simple function at the university.
The victims, who died in the fire incident, were Mostafa, Lal Miah, Idris, Sohel, Monsur Ali and James Baroi. They died in fire while cleaning a water tank at the basement of Pacific Tower of which EWU is a tenant.
The cleaning work was undertaken by the owner of Pacific Tower. Even so, the university authorities decided to give the amount to the victims' families on humanitarian ground as the accident took place on their campus.
