Ex-asst secy murdered

Some miscreants killed a retired assistant secretary in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila on Thursday. The dead is MA Sabur, 70, a former assistant secretary of the Home Ministry. Police and local sources said some local hoodlums of Charpathalia went to Sabur’s house to collect bamboos for making the podium of a programme in the morning. They engaged in an altercation with Sabur at that time. Sabur was invited to a local educational institution around 11:00am on Thursday to discuss the matter. Sabur went to the educational institution a few minutes later. About an hour later a gang of miscreants, equipped with axe and other lethal weapons, swooped on him. They hit Sabur in the head with an axe, leaving him injured. He was rushed to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital where doctors referred him to Dhaka for better treatment. He, however, succumbed to his injuries on the way around 4:00pm, according to a news agency.
