Ex-banker gets 24 yrs in jail in graft case

A Dhaka court sentenced on Monday Zahid Sarwar, former Assistant Vice President of Mutual Trust Bank (MTB), to 24 years' imprisonment and his wife Farhana Habib to seven years in jail in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of embezzlement, reports BSS.
As they are absconding, Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-9 issued warrants against them following the verdict.
According to the case document, Sarwar and his wife forged bank cheques with fake signatures and embezzled around Taka 54.8 million (5.48 crore) on occasions times from 2016 to 2018.
On December 10 in 2019, ACC Assistant Director Shafi Ullah filed the case.
