Ex-BNP lawmaker Shafi Chy acquitted of misappropriation

SYLHET, Oct 11 (UNB): Central BNP leader and former lawmaker Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury was acquitted by a court here Thursday in a relief goods embezzlement case.
Speedy Trial Court Judge Devjit Singh also acquitted Shafi Chowdhury's caretaker Selim Ahmed in the case.
South Surma police filed the case against Shafi Chowdhury and his caretaker Selim on February 18 after the joint forces recovered huge quantity of corrugated iron (CI) sheets and biscuits meant for relief from the residence of Shafi on February 17.
After this raid, Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury was absconding while the other accused, Selim, was in jail custody.
Shafi Chowdhury, former lawmaker from Sylhet-3 constituency, was sent to jail after he surrendered before the trial court on September 18.
