RAJSHAHI, June 18 (UNB): A BNP leader was injured in an encounter between Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members and his cohorts in front of Bangabandhu College in the city early today (Monday).
RAB sources said joint forces arrested Mamunur Rashid alias Mamun, former organising secretary of city BNP, when he came out from Shashthi Mosque after Esha prayers at about 9:20 pm Sunday, on charge of terrorist activities.
As per his statement, the RAB personnel went in front of Bangabandhu College to arrest his cohorts at about 2am today. Sensing their presence the sidekicks of Mamun opened fire on the elite force forcing them to fire back.
Mamun was injured during the encounter while trying to flee the scene. Later, the elite force admitted him to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
