Ex-BTCL chief Kalimullah jailed

The High Court has sentenced former managing director of the BTCL SM Kalimullah to four months in prison for contempt of court. The bench of Justice MR Hasan also fined the former public servant Tk 10000. He will have to be in jail for additional one month in case of failing to pay the fine. SM Kalimullah, the ex-MD of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited, went into retirement in February this year. The plaintiff's counsel Anik R Haque said that the court ordered a four-month ‘civil imprisonment’. Supreme Court's acting Registrar Abdul Quddus said that Kalimullah was sent to the prison after the verdict was pronounced today, according to a news agency.
