Ex-minister Prof Abdus Salam passes away

SHERPUR, Mar 17 (UNB): Prof Abdus Salam, former minister and lawmaker, died of old age ailments at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) early Thursday. He was 78.
He was admitted to the MMCH at 10.00 pm Wednesday as he suddenly fell sick after taking his dinner. Later, he died at the hospital at 2.00 am today.
The deceased left behind his widow, four sons and a host of well-wishers and relatives to mourn his death.
A resident of Nayabil village in Nalitabari Upazila, Prof Salam had taught at Nazmul Smrity College during his lifetime.
He was Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports and Home during Zia and Sattar regimes and State Minister for Agriculture and Forest and Environment during Ershad regime.
