Ex-minister Shajahan Khan remanded for seven days

A seven-day remand has been granted for former shipping minister Shajahan Khan by a Dhaka court for interrogation in a case filed over the death of 14-year-old Abdul Motaleb in the city's Dhanmondi area on August 4.
Judge of the Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka, Mahbub Ahmed, passed the order hearing a police request seeking remand for him on Friday.
Earlier on the day, Khokon Mia, the investigation officer of the case, also a sub-inspector of Dhanmondi police station, produced him before the court seeking a 10-day remand in the case.
Shajahan, 75, also an Awami League presidium member, was arrested from Dhanmondi area early Friday.
He was elected to the Madaripur-2 parliamentary seat in 1986 as an independent candidate. Since then he has been elected as the Awami League MP of the constituency in 1991, 1996, 2001, 2008, 2014, 2018, and 2024.
On August 26, Abdul Motin, father of Motaleb, filed the murder case with Dhanmondi Police Station against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 175 others.
