A Dhaka court on Sunday placed the son of an ex-ruling party MP on a three-day police remand in connection with a case filed over the death of his wife. The Metropolitan Magistrate, Dhaka, granted the remand for former lawmaker of the Awami League Khan Tipu Sultan’s elder son Humayun Sultan over the mysterious death of Humayun’s wife in the city on Thursday. Magistrate Muhammad Anwar Sadat passed the order after the investigation officer (IO) of the case sought 10 days’ remand for Humayun. Police arrested him from Tipu  Sultan’s Dhanmondi residence early Friday, a few hours after his father-in-law filed a case in connection with the death of Shamaruf Mahjabin Kona, 24, wife of Humayun and a physician, and also a student of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. Tipu Sultan claimed Kona hanged herself in her room at his residence. She was rushed to Central Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead on Thursday evening. Kona's father, who came to Dhaka from Jessore, filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station the same day, according to a news agency.
