Ex-state minister Alamgir Kabir sent to jail

NAOGAON, May 19 (UNB): A court here sent former state minister for housing and public works Alamgir Kabir to jail Monday in a case filed for obstructing government employees from discharging their duties and issuing threat to the then TNO of Raninagar in 1996.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Sohagh Talukder passed the order when Alamgir surrendered to his court seeking bail in the case.
On November 2, 1996, the then thana nirbahi officer (TNO) of Raninagar M Mostafizur Rahman filed the case against five people, including Alamgir, on charge of obstructing government employees from discharging their duties and issuing threat to him when Alamgir was an MP from Raninagar-Atrai constituency.
On October 11, 1997, police pressed charges against Alamgir and three others in the case. Since then, Alamgir had been on bail.
On March 19 this year, a lower court issued a warrant for the arrest of the former junior minister of the BNP government as he did not turn up on the fixed date.
As he surrendered to the court Monday, it sent him to jail rejecting his bail petition.
