Ex-state minister Kaiser indicted

Former minister of state Syed Mohammad Kaiser has been indicted on 16 war crimes charges. Justice Obaidul Hassan-led second international crimes tribunal (ICT-2) of Bangladesh fixed March 4 for starting the trial. Charges pressed against the former Junior Minister include killings, genocide, torture, detention, rape and arson during the 1971 Liberation War. The former Muslim League leader was arrested on May 16 last year, a day after the war crimes tribunal had issued an arrest warrant against him. He was granted conditional bail on August 4. Habiganj resident Kaiser had joined BNP during the leadership of its founder late President Ziaur Rahman. He was made State Minister for Agriculture during the dictatorship of former military ruler Hussein Muhammad Ershad, according to bdnews24.com.
