Ex state minister Patal accused in extortion case

NATORE, Sept 10 (UNB): Former state minister for Youth and Sports Fazlur Rahman Patal and 15 others were accused of extortion in a case filed Monday.
Badaruddin of Chitholia village in Bagatipara Upazila filed the case. Magistrate of the local court sent the case to Bagatipara thana for investigation and report.
The petitioner said that he had supported the opponent of Patal in the 2001 election earning his wrath. On Patal's order, musclemen picked him up at gunpoint from the house on October 26 the same year. He secured release on payment of ransom.
Patal who faces a number of criminal cases was arrested on May 29 and detained under the Special Powers Act.
