CHITTAGONG, July 28: Passengers of CNG driven auto-rickshaws in the port city are to yet to get any benefit from installation of mileage meters as the drivers are found reluctant to receive fare on the basis of meter readings.
Commuters have rather become hostage to the drivers of the CNG-driven taxis operating in the city.
Although the CNG driven auto-rickshaws are well equipped with meters, they are hardly used in practice.
The drivers realise excess fare from the passengers and do not want to go to all destinations except their selected places.
As such, tussle between CNG auto-rickshaw drivers and passengers and untoward incidents are taking place almost regularly.
The number of CNG driven auto-rickshaws now operating in the city is around 14 thousand and more than one hundred thousand passengers travel by CNG-driven auto-rickshaws.
People prefer them for reaching the destinations within a short time and in a comfortable manner avoiding all sorts of inconvenience.
