Excessive rains damage roads, bridges, culverts in Chittagong

CHITTAGONG, June 21: Extensive damages were caused to roads, bridges and culverts in the port city following excessive rains that swept the entire city recently. The extent of damages and losses may exceed Tk. 1 billion, CCC sources said.
The water-logging surpassed all previous records and even claimed lives. About three-fourths area of the city went under water. Each ward of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) was more or less affected.
Almost all roads of the port city as well as its drains and culverts ended up in deplorable stage.
According to the primary survey of CCC, most wards had to incur losses of up to Tk 20 million. The extent of losses in some wards exceeded Tk 50 million.
