'Execution of right to information can reduce corruption in society'

Proper implementation of right to information can reduce corruption in the society, said Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs Abul Kalam Azad at the ICAB Award giving ceremony 2010 at Dhaka Reporters' unity in city Saturday.
He said media can help create awareness among the people.
Abul Kalam Azad further said the Prime minister believes in transparency of information and his ministry is working for that.
The USA-based non-profit and non-political organisation International Council for Advancement of Bangladesh (ICAB) organised the award giving ceremony 2010 for investigative journalism in electronic and print media and essay competition (English and Bengali) at school, college and university level.
He handed over prizes to the winners. This year Mostafa Mollick, senior reporter, Channel-I from electronic media, and Ummul Wara Sweety from print media received award for investigative journalism. They also received crest, certificate and Taka fifty thousand each for their achievement.
Essay titled "Cyber Bangladesh: A Vision for Future" both in Bengali and English versions was intended for university students. Md. Sayed Hasan, student of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Damodor Saha of Rajshahi University and Farzana Haque Bristy of Darul Ihsan University received first, second and third prizes respectively in Bengali version. In English version, Kazi Arif Billah of Khulna University was placed in the first position, and Muhammad Rakibul Hasan (Roky) of Rajshahi University and Shaila Sharmin jointly occupied the second position.
Essay titled "Vision 2010: Dream of Bangladesh" both in Bengali and English versions was meant for college and school students. In Bengali version Md. Abu Taher of Government Brindabon College, Hobiganj, Sumona Akhtar Shuma of Centaral Women's College and Farzana Akhter Badhon of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College received first, second and third prizes respectively. In English version Syed Zarif Uddin Ahmed of Adamjee Cantonment College, Sheta Saha of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College and Taslima Akhter, Tarop High School, Habiganj received first, second and third prizes respectively.
Taka ten thousand, Taka eight thousand and Taka five thousand along with crests and certificates were given to the winners of first, second and third position respectively.
Among others, Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique, vice chancellor of Dhaka University, was present as the special guest on the occasion. Finance Director of ICAB Dr. Mohsin U Patwary was the guest of honour. Prof. Shahinoor Rahman spoke on the occasion.
Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, vice chancellor of Jagannnath University, presided over the ceremony.
