Railway Minister M Mujibul Haq, MP, Friday, said that his government was implementing 44 projects at a cost of Tk 190 billion for developing the railway system and after implementation of the projects there will be no problem for carrying passengers, reports BSS.
The minister said this while speaking at a seminar titled 'Importance of railway in national transport and people oriented communication system: Bangladesh perspective' in the city.
Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB), organised the seminar in its auditorium with president of the organisation AKM Hamid in the chair. IDEB deputy director M Yakub Hossain Sikdar presented the key-note paper.
For modernising country's age-old railway transportation system, the prime minister has made separate ministry for railway, said Mujibul Haq.
He said people's confidence in railway transportation has increased more with the inauguration of train service over the Bangabandhu Bridge by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The losses of railway have come down significantly, he added.
The railway minister said railway system collapsed during the rule of the BNP-Jamaat alliance as they had not laid new rail lines and closed down 200 railway stations across the country.
