Exemplary integrity of a street kid
Sunday, 1 January 2012
It was a busy summer city when the vehicles were in traffic signal at Matscho Bhaban Mor (corner point of Fisheries Building) in Segunbagicha. Some hawkers were selling their goods to the passengers. At that juncture, a child hawker started selling, 'tasty hazmi'. Everyone could see that his hand was fingerless.
A passenger offered Taka 2.0 as a mark of sympathy towards him but the boy provided two pieces of 'tasty hazmi' to that passenger. The passenger wanted to return them but the fingerless hawker told him firmly and loudly, 'I do not beg. So, please take back your money!' And with that he returned the money and left the place quickly.
Almost every passenger was stunned. Many appreciated the dignity of the child because in this city there are too many people, including those physically sound, who want to beg, instead of doing any job.
